Somewhat shockingly this squad announcement has absolutely nothing to do with Barack Obama, or more reassuringly Col. Muammar Gaddafi, but is in fact about the Yorkshire County Lacrosse Association President's squad for the upcoming Yorkshire Cup - more after the jump

The Yorkshire Cup is competed for by Premier 1 and 2 teams from Yorkshire (this season Sheffield Steelers, Sheffield Uni, and Nottingham) and a Select "Best of the Rest" team.

This season sees this competition as being a secondary trial for the Yorkshire squad for the British National Championships (BNCs). Following a gruelling trial last Sunday the following players were selected:

Goalkeepers
Alex Hurst - Sheffield Hallam
Alex (Zanner) Michael - Newcastle University/ Newcastle LC

Defenders
James Prescott - Durham University
Jason Jones - Liverpool LC
Matthew Conway - Liverpool LC
Kyle Standiford - Durham University/Newcastle LC
Michael Leahy - Brooklands Hulmeians LC

Midfielders
Ollie Prescott - Leeds LC
Andy Whilde - Nottingham LC
Phil Harrold - York University
Carl Maitland - York University
Alex Williams - Leeds Met/Leeds LC
James Spence - Hull LC

Attackers
Simon Bickerton - Leeds LC
Jack Stamford - Hull LC
Luke Johnstone - Sheffield University

As you can see there are two current Knights (Kyle and Zanner) and a couple of Toon Army Vets (Stash and LJ) in the squad.

The President in question Simon Gill commented; "I'm absolutely delighted with the progress of the Yorkshire squad this year. Its great to see players selected from a large range of clubs, and this is great sign for the future of YCLA.

The President's Select squad is expected to provide a high level of competition in the Yorkshire Cup and give Sheffield University and Sheffield Steelers a good run for their money. With (England Coach) Tom Wenham at the helm, they are in good hands and with high expectations.

The squad is viewed as a stepping stone into the final Yorkshire squad due to compete at this years British National Championships. The squad will be selected using players from Sheffield Uni, Sheffield Steelers, and the Presidents select"

All the best to those selected in the YC and for making the full Yorkshire squad .
