The Committee of NuTLC are all volunteers who give their time to develop the game of lacrosse within the club and in the wider community. Here's some info about the current committee, to contact us, please use the contact form or for specific queries, use the information below.
Tom was introduced to lacrosse when the Sheffield Steelers’ LDO came to his primary school. He soon joined the Steelers junior ranks playing up until the age of 16. After a 3 year hiatus he returned to the sport at Newcastle Uni and the Knights soon after.
Chairman - Andy Higginbottom (Higg)
Andy, mostly known as Higg, started playing mixed lacrosse at Loughborough University, and started the now very successful men's team in his second year. Following graduation he played for Leeds LC, until he became a founding member of NuTLC. In his time at the club Andy has been Secretary, Treasurer and now Chairman. He has also coached and captained the team with varying degrees of success and is a level 3 qualified lacrosse referee. Outside of lacrosse Andy is a duty manager at Pleased to Meet You, and loves doing all of the lacrosse admin.
Club Secretary - Sophie Baird
Sophie started playing lacrosse at school at the age of 13 and has since played for the Birmingham University 1st team and in Paris (where the French thought her stick was for catching butterflies!). She joined NuTLC in 2013 and the committee soon after. Sophie is a level 1 qualified coach and really enjoys helping the club’s players develop their skills. When she's not playing lacrosse, she works in Public Health and sings at the Sage - beware she will shamelessly plug all her concerts whenever she can!
Club Treasurer - Tom Elleker
Tom was introduced to lacrosse when the Sheffield Steelers’ LDO came to his primary school. He soon joined the Steelers junior ranks playing up until the age of 16. After a 3 year hiatus he returned to the sport at Newcastle Uni and the Knights soon after. Outside of counting money Tom can usually be found watching, reading about or playing any other known sport.
Development Officer - Jeremy Pidgeon (Pidge)
Pidge began playing lacrosse at University (Durham - boo, hiss!) and has been playing for the Knights off and on since their inaugural year. While technically in charge of the development of lacrosse in the region, due to unfortunate circumstances he has found myself at somewhat of a loose end. As such he tries to help out in other areas as needed, namely socials.
Men's Captain - Phil Ellwood
Phil is the men's captain. He started playing lacrosse for Manchester Wacs at age 12 and played defence for Newcastle University where he was briefly captain. This is where Phil heard about the Knights and he started playing for them in 2010. Outside of lacrosse, Phil is a software developer.
Women's Captain - Margi Cowburn
Margi started playing lacrosse in 2008 whilst studying at Northumbria and she went on to be the social secretary of the team in her final year. Whilst at Warwick University she played in the first team for two years playing at BUCS premiership level. On her return to the North East she then went on to coach, umpire and captain the Newcastle Knights women's team. Through playing for the Knight's she has represented Yorkshire and gained both coaching and umpiring qualifications in the sport. Outside of lacrosse Margi is a primary school teacher and thoroughly enjoys her holidays!
Women's Fixture Secretary & Club Welfare Secretary - Laura Towers
Laura started playing lacrosse in 2011 in her final year of University at Sheffield Hallam and continued when she moved to the North East where she joined the Newcastle Knights. Outside of lacrosse Laura works for the School Improvement Service in North Tyneside as an Assistant School Sport Programme Coordinator where both her roles on the committee link closely to her day to day work. Laura is also qualified as a level 1 coach in support of the development of new players to the squad. During the school holidays, she works for TGM Travel Group as a Ski Instructor and company representative.
Men's Fixture Secretary & Deputy Welfare Officer - Ian Stewart
Ian began playing for the Knights in 2008, during his final year at university. He has played since the age of 10, representing Tithe Barn School, Stockport Grammar School, Old Stopfordians, and Cheadle Hulme & Durham University. His preferred playing position is LSM & he also referees for both the club and for the local universities. Outside of lacrosse, he works as a mechanical design engineer and also runs a youth group.
Media Officer - Molly Spencer
Molly began playing lacrosse at the age of 8 the LDO visited her local primary school. Since then she has played for Stockport Lacrosse club, working her way up from their U12s to their ladies team. She has also represented Cheshire Lacrosse and Wales U19 team. Since starting University at Newcastle in 2013 Molly has played for the University second team and joined the Knights in 2014.
Social Secretary - Greta Wood
Greta started playing lacrosse in 2013 with Newcastle University. But by 2014 she was playing with the Knights and in 2015 became their social leader. On the field she uses hustle to compensate for skill and off the field uses alcohol to compensate for a genuine sense of humour.
