As we begin winter training this week, it's time to have a little look at how the men's season ahead looks.
We start the year in Championship Conference A, a division with possibly the narrowest alphabetical spread around! The structure has again been tweaked, the picture below will make sense of it all
Hull, Leeds, Lincoln, Loughborough & Newcastle make up the league, keeping the away trips short and meaning the majority of games will be played on artificial turf. After winning our league last year, the Knights are confident of getting some good results from the early games. Leeds will be looking to rebuild after a tough season last time out, whilst Hull, who pipped past us into the 16-17 Championship 2H, will be looking to bounce back from some numerical struggles, having conceded 4 games in 16-17. Lincoln & Loughborough will once again be unknown quantities, as the cyclical nature of university related teams will once again be to the fore.
To the winners of the mini league, there is a chance to face up to some well-established names in the Championship division, whilst the other 4 will join forces with those from Championship Conference B to form an 8 team league. If results go one way, we could be playing our first ever game against a team from Manchester Waconians. If they go differently, we may well be playing some of our local teams 4 times this year.
Below, you'll find our fixtures for the first part of the season. Home games are played at Newcastle Uni's Longbenton 3G, thanks to the ongoing partnership with the university club. All face-offs are at 2pm and all supporters, well wishers & curious observers are welcome to come along.
