For the first time in 2014 we’re here at nutlax.com to round up results and stuff from NEMLA’s Premier Division number 3, and to provide an update on the league winners….
The 10 weekends of 2014 to date have seen only 16 completed on the books for Premier 3, but what a set of fixtures they were.
January started (on 11th) with your Knights making the trip to Hull and turning out 7-6 winners, a result that was copied by Liverpool a week later, and Stoke going to Lincoln to draw 7-7.
The rest of the results in the month saw the Knights turning the heat up on Cheadle Hulme with a 16-4 win and a 10-2 win over Hull. Ashton and Lincoln pulled out a 10-10 draw, Stoke and Liverpool shared the spoils in a 5-5.
February saw the Knights and second place Cheadle Hulme without a game between them, while Liverpool secured third place with wins over Hull (11-6), Lincoln (1-19) and Ashton (9-3). Hull meanwhile secured their place in the top group with wins over Lincoln (9-6) and Stoke (21-9).
February’s other game was another draw, this time a 6-6 between Lincoln and Ashton.
That left one game to complete the main slice of league play to an end, but the table looked like this:
1 Newcastle 11-0 (W-(D)-L)
2 Cheadle Hulme 9-3
3 Liverpool 7-1-4
4 Hull 4-1-7
5 Ashton 2-2-7
6 Stoke 2-3-7 (had points deducted)
7 Lincoln 1-3-8
This meant that with a win over Ashton, and their meaty head-to-head record against Cheadle Hulme, the Knights could wrap up the league title with the 3 play-in games to go.
That win came in moderately unconvincing fashion on 1 March as the game finished 8-5 to the Knights.
With the League title wrapped up, the Knights could focus on finishing the year off undefeated. That effort was eased somewhat as Hull were unable to raise a team on 8 March.
The other games scheduled for this weekend were Liverpool travelling to Cheadle Hulme which finished 15-9 to the home side, and Stoke hosting Lincoln (result outstanding).
Next weekend sees Cheadle Hulme host Hull, Lincoln host Ashton and your Knights heading to Liverpool.
